In summer 2017, a small-scale RAS laboratory system, specifically designed for cultivation of whiteleg shrimps (Litopenaeus vannamei), was installed at the laboratory in the Institute of Oceanography, University of Gdansk. The trial looked at two versions of the RAS system: one equipped with a trickling filter and one with a moving bed filter.

As production of farmed animals continues to grow, treating their effluents correctly becomes increasingly important. In many countries the nitrate load of soil and groundwater is already at a critical level or exceeds the official guideline values. The random distribution of manure as fertilizer accounts for large parts of this load.

Lithuanians are seeking to acquire the knowledge and technologies that will offer them greater competitiveness in the aquaculture industry and that will effectively employ the country’s existing geothermal resources. For that purpose, an experimental facility that has been designed for industrial shrimp farming started operating in Klaipėda in July 2018.

In June 2017 a small scale RAS laboratory system for shrimp cultivation was installed at the laboratory of the Institute of Oceanography, University of Gdansk, for the purpose of the InnoAquaTech project pilot 2 – “Farming shrimp in Poland: Increasing the potential of recirculating aquaculture systems”.

Sep 2017), InnoAquaTech organised an aquaculture session called “Creating added value in RAS aquaculture through innovative technology integration” The session looked into possibilities and approaches of creating added value in RAS aquaculture. It was moderated by Jesper Heldbo, General Secretary for the Danish business association AquaCircle.

2017-08-25 12:11:10Guldborgsund Zoo Pilot - a (fishy) tale of technology transfer
Whilst most were enjoying their summer holidays, Guldborgsund Zoo was a hive of activity, preparing together with DTI for the reception of 105 catfish (Clarias gariepinus) fingerlings – the inhabitants of the second phase of the Danish InnoAquaTech Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) demonstration and dissemination pilot, which is part of a temporary exhibition and will run for the next three months.

The 4th Fish Congress took place in Sopot, Poland on the 30th and 31st March. Under the official patronage of the Polish Minister of Maritime Economy and Eurofish International, it is the annual fisheries industry management conference. The National Marine Fisheries Research Institute (NMFRI) together with the West Pomeranian University of Technology were this year’s programme partners.
2017-04-12 14:41:17Innovative Aquaculture – Professional Training Seminar in Gdynia
On 29th March, the University of Gdańsk held a professional training seminar entitled “Innovative Aquaculture”. The aim was to present opportunities for innovative aquaculture solutions across the South Baltic Region. The seminar was the first InnoAquaTech training session offered to external stakeholders such as practitioners, representatives of private enterprises, government agencies, industry associations, universities, research and industry institutes.
