s.Pro for UBA: A new study will examine the assessment of the EU legislative proposal on single-use plastics and fishing gear
The first legislative proposal presented in the framework of the EU Plastics Strategy, ‘Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment” (COM(2018) 340 final), addresses the top 10 litter items most commonly found as waste on European beaches as part of drift line monitoring for the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (2008/56/EC).
The s.Pro Sustainable projects GmbH (the founding and managing partner of the SUBMARINER network) will work on a new project launched by the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) to support the German contribution to the drafting of the proposed directive.
The aim of this project is to analyse the legal feasibility of implementing Article 8 of the current proposal for a directive on extended producer responsibility. In addition, the technical measures that are suitable for which products from an environmental point of view will be evaluated.Which options are efficient and effective for collection, transport and disposal per product group and which awareness-raising measures could be effective? A feasibility study will also be carried out for these concrete proposals to be developed. Finally, a third work package will be used to develop concrete proposals for amendments to the legislative process.
