The 6 Smart Blue Regions were represented at the European Maritime Day 2016, which took place in Turku (Finland) on the 18 and 19 May 2016. They shared a stand together with the Alliance and Baltic Blue Growth projects, both of them also Interreg projects, which are implemented by members of the Submariner Network.
The European Maritime Day is the annual meeting point for Europe’s maritime community to network, discuss, and forge joint action. Through the active participation in this event the Smart Blue Regions project gained a great EU-wide visibility.
Some of the project partners of Smart Blue Regions also took part in workshops organised during this event. Joanna Przedrzymirska (Maritime Institute in Gdansk) attended the workshop on „Enhanced engagement of SMEs in blue innovation" as a speaker and Carsten Beyer (Submariner Network) presented approaches on innovative financing schemes to be tested in the framework of transnational cooperation projects during the workshop on Blue Growth value chains and smart specialisation.
On 19th and 20th May 2016, the partners gathered in Turku for the first partners meeting of Smart Blue Regions, hosted by the Southwest Finland Regional Council. The partners also went on a study tour in Turku’s archipelago - inter alia in order to see the shipyard of Meyer.
