AQUA-LIT Project: averting the discarding of litter in the marine environment from the aquaculture industry
WATCH this nice animated VIDEO introducing the problem of marine litter, the way maritime sector contributes to aquaculture and the role of the AQUA-LIT project.
Since January 2019 (in line with the new EU Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy), AQUA-LIT project has been providing the aquaculture sector with a toolbox that can showcase tools, case studies, best practices, as well as a database that creates links between stakeholders for addressing the three main components of marine littering: prevention and reduction, monitoring and quantification, and removal and recycling.
The scope of the toolbox will encompass three sea basins: the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea basins and it will be accessible through an online platform and a mobile app.
SUBMARINER is a project partner responsible for strengthening the network between different actors and two of the so-called "Learning Labs", in which measures with practitioners on the topics of product design and recycling are to be discussed.
